Open Caption Sessions
We are now holding regular “Open Caption” sessions. Open Captions are text with sound description displayed on the screen to allow all patrons to enjoy movies together.
There are two main differences between subtitles and open captions:
- It is in the same language as spoken on screen.
- There is also some sound description included e.g. “loud bang” or “jazz plays lightly in the background” etc.
The key benefit of OC is accessibility. Accessing movies via open captions is best practice. Unlike hand held closed caption devices, captions for OC are up on the screen.
Not all films are offered in the open caption format so we won’t be able to show everything, but most are and we will be selecting some every week to show on various days/nights. To find out what session is Open Caption this week, check below. It will also be tagged on our weekly session flyer and on our session times page as OCaptions.
