The Jezebel of Jazz

Known as “The Jezebel of Jazz,” Anita O’Day was the original bad girl of swing — a fearless, stylish rebel who broke every rule. She wore suits instead of gowns, drank with the boys, and delivered daring, rhythmically charged performances that redefined jazz singing.

In this electrifying tribute, Melbourne vocalist, broadcaster and producer Chelsea Wilson celebrates O’Day’s audacious spirit and timeless songbook. Described as a “jazz-soul powerhouse” (Beat Magazine), Chelsea has performed at Glastonbury Festival, London Jazz Café, Melbourne Recital Centre and Byron Bluesfest. With a lifelong passion for jazz, Chelsea has hosted Jazz Got Soul on PBS 106.7FM, Bent Notes on JOY FM, and served as Artistic Director of Stonnington Jazz and Artistic Associate of Melbourne International Jazz Festival. For this performance, she’s joined by Adam Rudegeair (PBS 106.7FM), and Hadyn Murtagh on bass — bringing the rebellious fire of Anita O’Day to life once more. Expect bebop, swing, latin-jazz and stories of the life of a woman who lived life on her own terms.
