Rhea John is a rising Melbourne-based jazz vocalist and songwriter, recognised for her nuanced vocal artistry, energetic improvisation and command of the stage. She has performed to sold-out audiences across Melbourne, both as bandleader and alongside the Will Jones Big Band, the Little Bourke “Big” Band and the Jazz Kittens.
Born in the UAE and raised in Australia with Indian roots, Rhea’s diverse upbringing has shaped her versatility as a vocalist and musician. Her sound blends the traditions of jazz with a contemporary sensibility, characterised by her smooth, velvety tone and expressive interpretations
.A two-time finalist in the Generations in Jazz Vocal Scholarship, Rhea is the recipient of the Monash-Pratt Musician Performance Scholarship and Bornstein Jazz Voice Prize. She has performed and recorded alongside some of Australia’s most esteemed musicians, including Paul Grabowsky AO, Deborah Cheetham AO, Tony Gould AM, Meg Washington, Kristin Berardi and Shannon Barnett.
