It came from outer space!

It is 1950s America. The small towns are sleepy and the kids are free to run and dream as they please, with only fretful mums to worry about. Until the Russians launch Sputnik into the heavens, that is, and a gargantuan robot is discovered in the forest by young boy Hogarth Hughes. With no memory of its origins and a docile, curious soul eager to make friends, this iron giant is sure to shake up Hogarth’s world. But in such a small town, it’s only a matter of time before the government takes notice, leaving this boy and his robot no choice but to stand up for what they believe in.

Despite being caught up in the closure of Fox Animation at the time, and almost disappearing upon release, THE IRON GIANT became a beloved classic, a cult film for children and adults. It remains as poignant, powerful, and hilarious as the day it was barely released. Perhaps more so. Its unbridled optimism and belief in our ability to be better feels truly transgressive today. A stunning feature debut from co-writer/director Brad Bird (THE INCREDIBLES 1&2, RATATOUILLE, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL), and with stellar voice talent from Eli Marienthal, Vin Diesel, Harry Connick Jr., Christopher MacDonald, and Cloris Leachman, THE IRON GIANT is a classic that deserves to be seen on the big screen with the whole family.

After you’ve wiped away your (happy!) tears from our screening of THE IRON GIANT, join us for our Kids Robotics Workshop in the Lido Cinemas Foyer - for children who love putting things together, pulling them apart, and figuring out how it all works. Check out the magic behind the mechanical, mathematical, and physical aspects of machinery and the future of robotics.
