Some songs have travelled through centuries to reach us.
In Trouble the Water, Miss George breathes new life into deeply historic hymns, folk songs and spirituals, bringing old music into the present through her soulful voice, storytelling and distinctive musical style.
These are songs that have carried faith, grief, longing, hope and love across generations. Reimagined and interpreted by Miss George they become something both familiar and new, intimate, atmospheric and full of emotional connection.
From ancient hymns to folk traditions and gospel-inspired songs, Trouble the Water is an evening of music, stories and rediscovery.
A chance to hear old songs differently, and perhaps discover why they have endured.
Miss George is a vocalist, storyteller and musical presence whose work has moved across jazz, sacred music and contemporary musical experiences for more than two decades. From performing and working in churches in the UK and Middle East to jazz venues and concert stages in Australia, she has developed a voice that sits comfortably between intimacy and intensity. Equally at home in a quiet sacred space as a jazz room.
Her work draws on years of singing, storytelling, church liturgy and pastoral music-making, alongside a deep love of jazz, folk, gospel and traditional song. She is particularly drawn to music with history, soul and a sense of mystery, bringing an instinctive, emotionally connected approach to everything she sings.
At the heart of Miss George's work is the voice itself - not simply as an instrument, but as a way of communicating, gathering people together and creating a space where something can be felt. Whether performing jazz, reimagining a hymn or creating an immersive musical experience, she brings warmth, depth, presence and a genuine connection with an audience.
