The Story

As a solo artist Julian James may be a relative newcomer on the scene, but he’s making up for lost time in a big way. From Tasmanian Jazz clubs to Byron Bay farmer’s markets, Victorian festivals to Adelaide jam sessions - it’s likely that Julian has stopped in there for a song and a drink (or two). He’s been on a constant tour cycle that’s seen him living out of his van for the past 18 months, and people are starting to take notice.

Hot on the old timey heels of his recent ‘Silver Spade’ album, Julian takes his sound up a notch with new song ‘Looking For a Light’, a ramshackle ditty in the great honky tonk tradition that features a backing band made up of a who’s who of fine young Melbourne talent. Iseula Hingano of Blues Eyes Cry, Nadia Rose of Rambal, Rockabilly pianist extraordinaire Ezra Lee all lend a hand, and the full-blown horn section doesn’t hurt either.
