The Story

Shot in black-and-white, Isaac begins with a recreation of the 1941 Lietukis Garage massacre that saw pro-German Lithuanian nationalists kill more than 50 Jewish men. It then shifts to 1964, when director Gediminas returns to Lithuania from America to make a film based on these notorious events. His presence attracts the suspicions of the KGB and the interest of old friend Elena and her husband Andrius. The personal and the political are dangerously combined in a tense and noir-like reckoning about the lingering psychic trauma of totalitarian savagery and unresolved Holocaust guilt.
