The Story

In 1618, the Inquisition descended on the city of Porto, resulting in the persecution of Portuguese Jews. Terror, mass emigration and the near-total destruction of the city’s economy ensued. With his family and community in danger, António Álvares must decide to flee or resist.  

In this lavish period drama, stirring performances, stunning costumes, and rich score and set design bring to the fore a tragic chapter of the past that reverberates to this day.
