The inspirational true story of Irena Gut, a young Polish woman who was forced to work as a housekeeper for a Nazi Major during WW2. When she learns the Jewish ghetto is to be liquidated, she helps 12 Jewish workers by sheltering them in the safest place she can think of: the cellar of the German commandant's home. For two years – until the end of the German occupation - Irena uses her courage and her wits to hide her friends and keep them alive against all odds.
