“A gorgeous, touching film.” – San Jose Mercury

In Italy’s painterly Piedmont region, elderly Igor hunts for truffles with his faithful dog Birba. Concerned for Igor’s health, his daughter Marta sends her own daughter, Dalia, to check up on him. But Dalia’s presence is unwelcome; Igor resents her for rejecting the rural way of life for the big smoke in London.

When Dalia discovers that Igor is behind on his mortgage payments, she sets out deep into the woods with Birba at her side to find the legendary “lightning struck” truffle. This valuable truffle could solve all her grandfather’s troubles, but finding it isn’t the only obstacle – Dalia must also contend with rival truffle hunters, dangers in the forest and the shady dealings of Italy’s agricultural industry.

This elegant film draws on local folklore and mythology to craft a fable about intergenerational connection and the preservation of traditional knowledge, despite the threat of technological advances and climate change. Its wonderful cast includes Birba the dog, who also appeared in the award-winning documentary The Truffle Hunters.
