The Story

Australian Premiere

“[A] nervy, finely acted domestic thriller.” — Variety

When Blanche (Virginie Efira) meets the charming, handsome and attentive Grégoire (Melvil Poupaud), she thinks she has found the one. Their connection grows quickly, and a passionate affair ensues. Together, they relocate for Grégoire’s work. For Blanche, it’s far from her family, and from her twin sister Rose (also played by Virginie Efira) with whom she shares a close bond, and little by little she finds herself isolated and caught in the grip of a deeply possessive and dangerous man.

Beautifully shot by cinematographer Laurent Tangy, who uses to great effect heightened, vibrant colours that match the changing psychological state of its imperilled female protagonist. Director Valérie Donzelli (Marguerite & Julien) has created a taut and suspenseful Hitchcockian domestic thriller that highlights an all too familiar scenario for many women.
