Toby Mak is a protégé of the late Gil Askey, musical director for Diana Ross and a Motown legend. Thanks to Gil, young Toby learned to burn from the start. He understood the language of bop, jazz and swing. Toby, trumpet, along with Mal Sedergreen, saxophones, was part of a revolutionary new band, Mistaken Identity, who introduced salsa-style original pieces and made many albums together.
After spending many years performing in China, Toby has returned home and will add a lot of musical authority to an experienced rhythm section featuring bassist Clive Harrison and drummer Mark Voogd. Of course, iconic Melbourne jazz pianist Bob Sedergreen and Toby are no strangers, as Toby cut his teeth sitting in with Bob and the late Gil Askey. This reunion promises to be a musical event with much sparkle.
