Debra La Velle will revisit her love of jazz with some of Melbourne's most respected musicians. They will perform loved tunes from the 1930’s -1950’s, featuring vocalists such as Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Carmen McCrae, Julie London & Doris Day. Repertoire will travel through genres Swing/Blues/to Latin.
Debra La Velle first started singing jazz at the age of 21 at Merimbula Jazz Festival. She has worked a varied musical life… such as backing vocalist for original Funk band ‘JANZ winners of the 1988 Yamaha World Rock competition, who supported bands such as Womack & Womack, America, & Little River Band, & is known for her seven residency with The Karl Hird Trio at Il Primo (Carlton) with some of Melbourne’s finest jazz musicians.
In 2016 she released her debut album ‘Journey Of The Heart’ showcasing her heartfelt original Folk/Country/RN’B songs, performing at Stony Creek Music Festival, Yarraville Festival, Newport Folk festival, The Lomond Hotel, The Drunken Poet, Prahran Market, Pride Of Footscray etc. Her music has been aired on Australian radio stations such as: 3RRR, 3PBS, 3CR, 98.3FM, 98.9FM, 5TripleZ, 2CBD 105.9FM, 2NSB 99.3FM, Frasercoast FM 107.5 & My Country Australia Apple 98.5FM.
She can be seen each Thursday night with guitarist Ian Andrews in ‘Jazz n Samba’ at Vamos Tapas Bar & Restaurant (Melb), which is nearing the 9 month mark now, & has extended her repertoire in Portuguese, Spanish & French tunes.
She has just released her jazz/tango influenced Single ‘When The Nightbird Calls’ which she will perform alongside tunes from the 1930’s -1950’s, featuring vocalists such as Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Doris Day & Astrid Gilberto, travelling through genres Swing/Blues/to Latin.
