“Life is a tragedy when seen in close-up, but a comedy in long-shot" – Charlie Chaplin

Over a century after he rose to fame, Charlie Chaplin remains not just one of cinema's greatest comedians, but also an enduring icon of film itself. To celebrate his unique ability to combine slapstick comedy with deeply-felt pathos, we are presenting a retrospective of Chaplin's greatest films.

This program encompasses his early silent films introducing Chaplin's beloved The Tramp, as well as his increasingly dramatic and political "talkies". Many of these are presented in glorious new restorations, such as 1921s The Kid, screened in a beautiful 4K restoration to celebrate the film's 100th anniversary.
